This software is for editing the address book database which is created by Apple Contacts. Its List view and powerful Find & Replace function make it easy to edit your address book database.

  1. -Edit Button

Edit button protects you from accidental changes.

The window frame color tells you in editing.


How to use AddressBookAid

  1. -Launching and selecting Group

When you start AddressBookAid, the AddressBookAid Window will open and show you the whole address book data.

There’s popup menus at the top of the window, Group, Label and View Type. You can select an group and labels that you want to see by the menus.

Works in 10.7 and later

Operating system requirements:

AddressBookAid works in Mac OS X 10.7 and later.


How to Install the trial version:

Double click on the zip file that you downloaded, then the AddressBookAid-Trial.app is created.


Uninstallation:

You can just delete this software from the installed folder in order to uninstall this software.



- Printing

To print, please select the Print menu in the File menu with selecting contacts that you want to print.

There is AddressBookAid options in the detail of the Print dialog. You can select which information to print at the option.


- Address Panel

When you double click the cell in the Address column, the Address panel will be shown. The address in the Address book database consists of Street, City, State, ZIP and County.

You can change the address format by the value of “format” column. The “System Default” is defined at the Preferences of Apple Contacts.


- Add/Delete information with Label

When you want to add a new phone number with label, Command-Double-Click the phone cell in the Edit mode. You can add/delete/edit the value at the sheet dialog which is shown as below.


The “Name Ordering” menu in the panel is used to select the name ordering from “System Default”, “First Name First”, “Last Name First”. The change is stored in each contact

The “Show as Person” menu is used to select which name is shown in the Name column between Name and Company. For example, when you type “Apple” in the Company field and select the Company at the menu, the name will be shown in the Name field at the top of the panel and the Name column in the Main window.


- Add/Delete contact

There is a menu in the Contact Button, “Add New Contact”. It opens the Info Panel with Edit mode. When you click the Done button in the panel, the new contact will be shown in the list.


  1. -Save and revert to saved

The “Save” and “Revert to Saved” menu in the File menu are the menu to save and discard your changes.

AddressBookAid doesn’t update the system database until you select the “Save” menu. So you can use Apple Contacts at the same time with AddressBookAid. You will be able to see how AddressBookAid works.




- Find & Replace

The “Find” or “Find and Replace” menu in the Find menu will open the FindBar at the top of the contact list.

The “Find and Replace” is only available in Editing-mode.


When you do replace at the Address column, the Address Panel will open to edit the information.


  1. -Edit

There’s button at the upper-right corner of the AddressBookAid window. It switches Editing-mode to ON. Then the color of the window frame turns to Red to indicate it is Editing-mode.


  1. -Contact Info

When you double click the cell in the Name column, the Contact Information panel will open and show you the whole information set to the contact.


  1. -Selecting View type

Through the View Type popup menu, you can select what kind of information to be shown in the AddressBookAid window. The “Default” view type show you Phone, Email and Address information.

What’s new on 1.7.x

  1. -Using the toolbar to show navigate menus.

- Change the way of showing Group list to a split view. You can drag&drop a contact to add in a group.

- Add a sort function in each column. It will help you find a duplicate item.

- Fix a issue that the same group names are exist.

- Fix a issue that Changing Name Ordering doesn't work sometimes in Contact Info Panel.

- Undo/Redo

You can undo and redo until you change the list or add/delete contact.

- Font menu

You can change font and size in the row of Table.

- Import/Export vCard

AddressBookAid can import/export vCard (.vcf) files.

The Import panel shows contact information in the file. You can select contacts to import from it through the panel.

- Drag&Drop vCard

You can drag&drop vCard from Apple Contact or Mail.

- QRCode

AddressBookAid can show QRCode of the selected contact information, and you can Copy&Paste the image to other documents.


  1. -Selecting “Default Account”

“Default Account” is the name of account you mainly operate the AddressBook Database. It is set at the Preferences in Apple Contacts (AddressBook in 10.7). Please select the same account with the preferences. Otherwise a contact or a group you add or modify may not be saved correctly.

AddressBookAid automatically select the Default Account when it is launch, however when you change it at Apple Contacts, please change it too from the menu “Select Default Account” in the Navigate menu.


- Command-Double-Click

When you do Command-Double-Click on a cell, a sheet dialog will be shown to show the detail values of the selected type of cell as below.

The sheet can be used to add/delete/change the values in the editing mode too.

  1. -Powerful Find & Replace

AddressBookAid uses TextFinder for the Find&Replace panel which is introduced in OSX 10.7. You can find a word in name and other categories, and replace it with a pattern.
